Biryani- this is not only a food; this is the epitome of a specific culture, holds the tradition and the live document of history. Biryani came to India with the Mughals and it took no time to become the favourite of all. Today, biryani is one of the most popular and loved food items that vegans also fall for veg biryani recipe in Marathi. This is such a delicacy which will appear in different forms in different states. Each type of biryani has certain stories behind it. For example, you won’t find a potato in biryani anywhere except Kolkata. It was because of the Nawab of Awadh, Wajid Ali Shah. So, biryani is not a mere food item; it is the reason to live for many of you. Today, you will get different types of biryani which you can try and become a biryani expert.

  1. Mughlai Biryani– The Mughal kitchen has introduced this biryani to the world. Earlier, this biryani was cooked with rice and meat in strong spices. The aroma is breath-taking. Today, this style of biryani is mainly available in Delhi and surrounding areas.
  2. Lucknow Biryani- This is also popular in the name of Awadhi Biryani. This is a form of Mughlai biryani, but it has taken its name from the state. The main difference between Lucknow Biryani and its Mughlai counterpart is that the former one is cooked in less spice and that’s why it is lighter than that.
  3. Hyderabadi Biryani– As the Nizam of Hyderabad was a great follower of the Mughals, he followed the cuisine also. And that’s why the Hyderabadi Biryani has become the perfect combination of Moghlai cuisine and Andhra cuisine. It is too much spicy and rich.
  4. Kolkata Biryani– This is an evolution of Awadhi biryani. In taste and flavour, it is quite rich. But, today, the top-class biryani makers of Kolkata are trying to make it less spicy. Kolkata biryani is famous for the potato, cooked in spices and the boiled egg, hidden inside the biryani. It tastes heavenly!
  5. Ambur Biryani– It is a tiny city in Tamil Nadu, but people know it well due to the tasty biryani it prepares. It is different from all other types as the South Indian spices are used here. Served with curd raita, this biryani is really delectable.
  6. Dindigul Biryani– Biryani is often considered one of the famous North Indian delicacies. That is partly true. The South Indian variations will also charm you with its aroma, colour, and taste. Dindigul Thalapakatti Biryani is one of the South Indian variations, famous in Tamil Nadu that is slowly winning millions of hearts in other states.
  7. Sindhi Biryani– Though Sindh is in Pakistan now; the style of biryani is still famous here. This is the only recipe which is prepared by using lots of yogurt in it.
